The southern end of this trail has just grown by several miles. The Chatham County section which had been closed due to several incomplete trestles is now open and sporting several miles of pavement. Riding north from the southern end near New Hill, you can now ride 13.5 miles to Massey Chapel Road. Today we just rode a 17 mile out and back ride on the new section. When the bridge over I-40 is complete, this trail will extend 22 miles and become North Carolina's longest rail trail.
