Dec 12 In the Spirit of Adventure

Today's hike at Hanging Rock State Park, led by Matt Perry, was a a tribute to Ben Harris. Our friend had a knack for leading an adventure in his own way. He didn't need a trail. He blazed his own.

Huckleberry Ridge is the top of Moores Wall. There is a trail along it but Ben's route followed the very top and had many obstacles and viewing points. The one above is a classic.

Dec 15, 2013 was the first time Ben led a hike here. Several of the participants today were also on that adventure. Huckleberry Ridge Dec 15, 2013.

After traversing Huckleberry Ridge, we stopped for a break at Moores Knob observation tower.

Heading down the stone steps from Moores Knob, there is a spot where you can slip (and slide) down to the base of Moores Wall. It was loaded with downed trees. It was slow going but everyone managed to negotiate the slick route.

Once at the base of the wall, the rock spires and formations are eye catching.

Thanks to Friends of Sauratown Mountains and Matt Perry for honoring Ben in this way.
