Feb 28 Gray Owl to Cedar Rock

Gray Owl, still standing

The Gray family home is now part of the Uwharrie National Forest. It was acquired in April 2005 as part of the Klausner tract. There appears to have been another structure attached to back of the house. It would have had a full basement. Now it is just a hole full of trash.

Nearby Gray Owl is the Colburn mine pits located on the other side of this rock. I don't know the purpose of the ladder but it has been here for at least 20 years.

Two deep pits side by side and a long line of pits head downhill toward Betty MaGee Creek.

Meanwhile, back at the house

The Quartz pit

Out there in the middle of the forest with no discernable road to it, is this pile of quartz next to huge pit.

The huge Quartz pit

These stacks of rock are in the vicinity of two homesites. One had a chimney fall and the other has a standing chimney.

Cedar Rock

There are two metal ladder deer stands in this vicinity. There are two homes in shouting distance from here as well.
