Also known as the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania, the Pine Creek Gorge is a spectacular setting for bike trail. This trail is in wonderful condition. The surface is flat, not rutted, and very smooth.
We started our trip just outside the oddly named town, Jersey Shore. We crossed over Pine Creek a couple times on old trestles. A well traveled Pennsylvania state road paralleled the trail all day. The gorge wall rose steeply on either side, so Pine Creek, the trail and road shared a narrow space.

We approached Waterville just before noon and stopped at the local tavern for a "to go" sandwich. I ordered a "Tower Sandwich". About an hour later when we stopped to eat, we realized it really lived up to its name as you can see in the photo of Nanci below.
By mid afternoon, we had reached our day's destination, the only lodging facility along the route. This place was one of 2 commercial establishments in the small community, the other being a general store. Our little oasis was a small hotel, bar, restaurant and community gathering place. We had internet access but no cellular service. Breakfast was a self serve area in the back of the restaurant. We had everything we needed for the midway point of our bike trip.
