May 13 Lake Lure Flowering Bridge

Built in 1925 and decommissioned for vehicular traffic in 2011, this bridge has become a series of gardens all maintained by volunteers. Gardens are spreading on either side of the bridge as well.

The bridge spans the scenic Rocky Broad River. Just downriver, is the backwater of Lake Lure. The town of Lake Lure owns the bridge. As you drive through here, the towns of Lake Lure and Chimney blur together.
