Sep 16 Echo Dell

Echo Dell was also known as Lovers Dell but today the area is designated as Houghton Falls. The former names were used in promoting this area as a resort in the late nineteenth century. The resort was built right by the railroad. You can still see the railroad grade through here.

The trailhead is accessed from a gravel road off the main highway here which roughly follows the lakeshore. The parking area was interesting in that it had a rolling gate which closed and opened on a timer, opened once in the morning and closed once at 6 pm. If you were unfortunate enough to be parked after hours, there is a sign telling you, in so many words, it was going to be an ordeal to open the gate after hours.

They grow them bigger here. All mushrooms which I am familiar with back home, grow larger here.

Orange hawkweed or Fox and cubs is seen relatively often here. It has many medicinal uses and is pretty to boot.

The creek emptied into the inlet on the right of the photo. The trail came to an end at a point which had nice flat sitting rocks and a handhold to hoist yourself back out of the water onto the rock.

This ravine has seen some serious erosion over the year. It reminds me of the erosion along the lakeshore.

This is still in the ravine
