Aug 30 Sandia Peak

Get high in Albuquerque.

Sandia Mountain, located on the outskirts of town, has a 2.7 mile tram to its peak. Conceived in the 1960s after a visit to Europe. A couple entrepreneurs, constructed this using only 2 towers between the two terminals. One car goes up as the other goes down. It takes about 15 minutes and when the two cars pass at the midway point, they are 1000 feet in the air. For 40 years this was the longest tram in the world.

Once at the top, there are hiking trails but watch out, you are at 10,300 feet where the air is thin.
