Sept 26 American Tobacco and White Oak Creek Trails

Once again, trying to get some more saddle time in before my weeklong ride upcoming. I chose a relatively close trail, the ATT. I was not planning to ride the White Oak Creek Trail, but when I arrived at the junction, my bike turned right and I was on this new trail. Just a couple months after its grand opening, it has already attracted hordes of folks. It follows the floodplain of White Creek. In doing so, it forms a border between the swampy wetland of the creek with the housing developments built nearby. Some of it is also along a sewer line. The number of houses here and under construction is staggering. As a result, it gets a lot of traffic. I would not recommended this trail for a weekend ride. Its crowded enough during the week.

What is really cool about this trail are the boardwalks. I measured 1.6 miles of boardwalk in the first several miles. That is a lot of wood. There is still a road ride detour before the trail reaches Fred Bond Park. It is not a pleasant road ride, so that is my turn around spot. Also, that section beyond the detour is where the paved trail has many upheavals from tree roots.

Enjoy this trail while you can, I believe these trails are going to gain in popularity and will make bicycling less pleasant in the future.

Back on the ATT, I rode up to the new parking access at New Hope Church Rd. This 92 space parking area is a testament to this trail's popularity.
